Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 03 - 02 - 2025

Egypt's Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, met with the Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Vitaliy Kovaly, to discuss cooperation in agriculture and food security, as per a Cabinet statement.
Farouk expressed his aspiration to enhance cooperation and trade exchange between the two countries for achieving food security, highlighting President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's focus on the agricultural sector as a primary source of food.
Egypt and Ukraine share deep and distinguished relations, particularly in the field of food imports, especially wheat, as Ukraine is one of Egypt's top wheat suppliers, he added.
He stressed the need to expand cooperation to cover livestock, high-yield animal breeds, and knowledge sharing. He also praised Egypt's initiatives to improve water efficiency and tackle climate issues, in line with government directives to strengthen agricultural value chains and increase exports.
Egypt remains committed to supporting the private sector and attracting both domestic and foreign investment. Direct meetings between Egyptian and Ukrainian investors are anticipated to enhance economic cooperation and foster new business opportunities.
Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Sherif Farouk, stressed Egypt's commitment to strengthening food security through partnerships with Ukraine in storage, food manufacturing, and modern agricultural technologies.
The Ukrainian minister expressed his pleasure at visiting Egypt and being in the New Administrative Capital for the first time. He stated that his country looks forward to expanding development prospects with Egypt, considering it a key regional player and a gateway to the African continent.
Kovali added that Ukraine is ready to enhance cooperation in food security. He noted that Ukrainian investors are prepared to collaborate with Egyptian firms operating in the grain, meat, and poultry sectors to meet Egypt's import needs. Additionally, Ukraine seeks to expand trade exchange with Egypt to greater levels.
