Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 25 - 05 - 2025

Egypt's Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib emphasised the BRICS group's important role in enhancing global trade and economic stability.
The remarks came in the the minister's speech, which was delivered on his behalf by Commercial Commissioner Yehia El Watheq Bellah at the fifteenth meeting of BRICS Ministers of Economy and Trade, held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, in the Brazilian capital, Brasília.
He underscored BRICS' role in supporting the multilateral trading system, global supply chains, financial inclusion, and industrial integration among member states, representing approximately 35 per cent of global GDP, as per an official release.
El-Khatib noted the growing international importance of BRICS as a platform reflecting the perspectives and priorities of developing and emerging economies, especially amid ongoing global economic challenges.
He pointed out that the meeting builds on the outcomes of the 14th BRICS Economic and Trade Ministers' Meeting held in Moscow last year, which addressed key issues such as trade facilitation, digital transformation, and investment resilience.
El-Khatib emphasised Egypt's dedication to engaging in BRICS initiatives, especially those focusing on digital inclusion and stronger economic partnership. Egypt is utilising its human capital, infrastructure, and strategic location to enhance global supply chains and industrial integration within the BRICS framework.
