Egypt's New Alamein has been named the Arab Summer Capital for 2025 by the Arab Tourism Organisation (ATO), recognising the city's "rapid transformation" into a top coastal tourism destination. The decision follows New Alamein's fulfilment of key selection criteria, including strong infrastructure, environmental protection, safety standards, and a wide range of recreational and cultural offerings, Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said in a statement on Thursday. Tourism Minister Sherif Fathy said the recognition reflects Egypt's success in developing coastal cities as sustainable and upscale tourism hubs. He added that the ministry will organise a year-long programme of cultural and entertainment events in 2025 to mark the city's title. The Arab Tourism Organisation grants the annual title to an Arab city that excels in beach and summer tourism. The accolade aims to boost competitiveness among Arab destinations and encourage the exchange of successful experiences. New Alamein's selection also underscores its growing appeal, bolstered by modern infrastructure, international hotel chains, and a growing calendar of festivals and events. The ministry noted that cities previously awarded the title saw a rise in tourist numbers in the following seasons. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
