Egypt has welcomed ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at a peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian crisis, including a Russian proposal to hold direct talks with Ukraine on May 15 and Kyiv's expression of readiness to engage. In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, Egypt emphasised the importance of both parties' willingness to negotiate directly, describing it as a crucial step towards a long-overdue settlement to the war. The move could pave the way for a new phase that addresses the concerns of both sides and contributes to a sustainable peace, restoring security and stability across Europe. The ministry also reiterated Egypt's long-standing stance on resolving conflicts through peaceful means and affirmed its support for previous initiatives seeking to end the crisis. Egypt had participated in Arab, African, and "Friends of Peace" efforts that called for a negotiated settlement to the conflict. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
