European shares edged higher on Wednesday, supported by upbeat economic data. The pan-European STOXX 600 rose 0.30 per cent by 11:16 GMT, supported by data showing economic expansion across Europe. Germany's DAX gained 0.53 per cent after data showed Europe's largest economy returned to growth in the first quarter. France's CAC 40 advanced 0.62 per cent, helped by both a stronger GDP reading and a slowdown in inflation. The UK's FTSE 100 added 0.17 per cent. Spain's IBEX 35, however, dropped 1.01 per cent, weighed down by the fallout from a major blackout that disrupted daily life and business across the country.
