Egypt's Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El Wazir met with Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation, as per a Cabinet statement. El Wazir outlined Egypt's comprehensive plan to localise key industries, including transport manufacturing, with the aim of positioning Egypt as a regional industrial hub. He highlighted the roles of SEMAF, a subsidiary of the Arab Organisation for Industrialisation, and the National Egyptian Company for Railroad Industries (NERIC) in producing rolling stock. The two sides also discussed enhancing land transport cooperation to facilitate the movement of passengers and goods and reviewed the outcomes of joint technical committee meetings on cross-border transport coordination. The meeting also addressed cooperation in new and renewable energy, including solar and wind power, along with the localisation of water desalination technologies. El Wazir stressed the readiness of major Egyptian infrastructure companies to participate in implementing projects in Saudi Arabia. He noted that Egyptian companies have developed significant expertise and professionalism in executing major infrastructure, bridge, and tunnel projects to international standards, with ongoing operations in Iraq, Libya, Tanzania, and other Arab and African countries.
