Egypt's FM hails Macron's visit, urges broader strategic ties with France

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty praised the recent state visit by French President Emmanuel Macron to Egypt, describing it as a reflection of the strategic nature of bilateral relations. He highlighted the significance of elevating ties between the two nations and the growing convergence of views on key regional and international issues.
During his meeting on Wednesday with François-Noël Buffet, French Minister of State at the Ministry of the Interior, on the sidelines of the Khartoum Process Ministerial Conference, Abdel-Aty underlined the importance of capitalising on the momentum from Macron's visit. He called for expanding cooperation across various sectors and deepening the strategic partnership between Egypt and France.
Abdel-Aty also reaffirmed Egypt's interest in strengthening joint efforts in the field of immigration. He stressed that creating legal migration pathways and facilitating the lawful movement of labour were central to Egypt's migration policy, particularly given the priority Cairo places on fostering legal migration channels and skills mobility between Egypt and European Union member states.
He expressed appreciation for the continued European support for migration-related projects in Egypt and voiced hope that France would increase its assistance, especially in light of the rising burdens shouldered by Egypt, which currently hosts over 10 million migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.
