Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty has expressed hope for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support the implementation of the Arab plan for Gaza's reconstruction, particularly in the early recovery phase. During a meeting with UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of UNDP's Regional Bureau for Arab States Abdullah Al-Dardari, Abdel Aty discussed how the programme could contribute to the plan. He also sought UNDP's backing for the Cairo ministerial conference on Gaza reconstruction, which Egypt is co-organising with the UN and the Palestinian government. Egypt proposed a comprehensive plan to rebuild Gaza following the October 7 war without displacing its residents. The plan has received international support, including from the United States. Cooperation with UNDP On bilateral cooperation, Abdel Aty commended UNDP's role in Egypt's development and called for increased contributions, particularly in projects that create jobs, attract foreign investment, and boost production. These efforts align with Egypt's sustainable development goals. The minister reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to supporting UN efforts for sustainable development in the Arab region amid current political, security, economic, and social challenges. He stressed Egypt's role as a key partner in these efforts and its dedication to strengthening cooperation and expertise exchange. UNDP supports Egypt-proposed Gaza reconstruction plan Al-Dardari praised Egypt's role in drafting the early recovery and reconstruction plan, adopted by the Arab League emergency summit and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation ministerial meeting. He affirmed the UNDP's readiness to provide technical and logistical support to ensure the success of the reconstruction conference in Egypt, offering the programme's expertise to aid implementation.
