Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat held a series of high-level meetings with global technology leaders during his participation in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, as per a Cabinet statement on Wednesday. The discussions focused on attracting new investments in offshoring services, fostering cooperation in digital skills development and artificial intelligence (AI), and supporting start-ups, according to the statement. Talaat discussed collaboration opportunities in cloud computing, AI, digital capacity building, and start-up support with Jacqueline Shi, vice president of Huawei Cloud, and senior Huawei executives. The meeting also reviewed the progress of an ongoing partnership between Huawei and the National Telecommunications Institute (NTI), which provides technology training for young professionals across Egypt. Talaat visited Ericsson's booth to learn about their cutting-edge technologies designed to accelerate network evolution and sustainable digital transformation, with a particular emphasis on 5G applications and related technologies. Additionally, he met with Patrick Johansson, senior vice president and head of the Middle East & Africa at Ericsson, and other senior executives to discuss digital capacity building, fostering innovation, and supporting start-ups. Discussions also highlighted Egypt's collaboration with Ericsson, particularly through the Ericsson Egypt AI Lab, which operates within the Egypt Digital Creativity Centre at Sultan Hussein Kamel Palace. Talaat met with international company officials to discuss boosting Egypt's offshoring industry. They reviewed Digital Egypt Vision for Offshoring 2022-2026, highlighting the country's competitive advantages like advanced digital infrastructure and skilled workforce. Furthermore, he met with Marco Hernansanz, executive VP and president of Salesforce's Southern Europe, Middle East, and Africa region, to explore setting up a research and development centre in Egypt. Talaat also met with CEO of Celfocus Alvaro Jose, a European company specialising in high-tech systems integration services. They discussed inviting the company to invest in Egypt and establishing a digital academy. However, Talaat held a meeting with CEO of Greyskies Ahmed Mokhtar to discuss the company's plans to expand in Egypt to provide IT services to its clients in the United States, as per the statement.
