Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, held a meeting on Monday with the Ambassador of Tunisia in Cairo, Mohamed Ben Youssef, to explore opportunities for strengthening cooperation, partnership, and investment in the electricity and renewable energy sectors, according to a Cabinet statement. The meeting focused on advancing clean energy initiatives, localising production equipment, and leveraging Egypt's expertise in expanding renewable energy sources to reduce reliance on traditional fuels and decrease carbon emissions. Esmat outlined the ministry's vision for diversifying energy sources and enhancing the energy mix strategy, highlighting investment opportunities in renewable energy. He emphasised the importance of supporting the private sector in developing clean energy projects, aligned with the government's efforts to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Additionally, the minister discussed the strategy to localise the production of electrical equipment, particularly for wind and solar energy. Esmat stressed that electricity is vital to Egypt's economic and social development, noting the country's focus on expanding renewable energy to reduce conventional fuel use as part of its sustainable development plans. He also highlighted Egypt's abundant natural resources, especially wind and solar energy, and pointed out that recent legislative amendments have simplified investment in renewable energy.
