Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Rania Al-Mashat, met with a delegation from the World Bank Group, led by Regional Director for Sustainable Development in the Middle East and North Africa, Mesky Brhane, to discuss enhancing cooperation and reviewing ongoing development projects, according to a Cabinet statement. Al-Mashat commended the strong partnership between Egypt and the World Bank, highlighting the government's commitment to sustainable and green infrastructure development. She noted Egypt's ongoing projects with the bank in key sectors such as transport and renewable energy. The discussions covered Egypt's new government programme aimed at fostering a competitive economy that attracts investment. The ministry is working on promoting sustainable economic growth and aligning domestic resources with international partnerships to drive development. The meeting also reviewed ongoing collaborations, including the World Bank-supported foreign direct investment strategy, industrial development strategy, and trade enhancement strategy, all aimed at improving Egypt's business environment and competitiveness. The talks also addressed environmental projects, such as the Greater Cairo Air Pollution Management and Climate Change Project and wastewater management, as well as future cooperation in the blue economy. The talks also touched on climate action efforts, including the NWFE programme, low-carbon development initiatives, and Egypt's collaboration with the World Bank's Climate Investment Funds (CIF) to implement the Nature, People, and Climate (NPC) initiative. The NPC initiative will focus on climate-smart agriculture, agribusiness and finance, coastal ecosystem management, and private sector engagement, aligning with Egypt's broader sustainability goals.
