Egypt's trade volume with Nile Basin countries hit $3.0 billion in 2023, with exports totaling $1.73 billion, up 2.1 per cent from 2022, while imports fell 7.1 per cent to $1.29 billion compared to the previous year's $1.38 billion, according to a statement by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) a copy of which was obtained by Amwal Al Ghad English. Sudan led the importers of Egyptian goods, with a total value of $989.0 million in 2023, up 3.6 per cent from $954.3 million in 2022. Key exports to Sudan included mill products and sugar. Kenya followed in second place, receiving Egyptian exports worth $327.3 million in 2023, down 8.2 per cent from $356.4 million in 2022. The primary exports to Kenya comprised sugar, paper and paper pulp products, and iron, steel, and steel products. Meanwhile, Congo topped the list of exporters to Egypt, with exports worth $532.1 million in imports in 2023, a modest 0.4 per cent increase from $530.2 million in 2022. Major Egyptian imports from Congo included copper and copper products, wood and wooden products, and charcoal. Sudan was the second-largest exporter to Egypt, bringing in $388.2 million worth of goods in 2023, a substantial decrease of 23.2 per cent from $505.4 million in 2022.
