Vodafone Egypt signs 5G deal for local market
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 11 - 11 - 2024

Telecom Egypt and Vodafone Egypt signed a groundbreaking deal on Monday, valued at 30 billion Egyptian pounds, to enhance their infrastructure and drive the expansion of 5G services across Egypt.
The agreement focuses on developing Vodafone Egypt's network, which will enable it to provide high-quality services to its customers while supporting its preparations for 5G rollout.
Moreover, the deal will accelerate the expansion of fibre optic networks, which are essential for delivering 5G services. As part of the agreement, Telecom Egypt will extend its messaging services agreement with Vodafone Egypt until 2031, covering both current and future network expansions. The agreement also includes a four-year contract for fibre optic connectivity to Vodafone Egypt's mobile sites.
Additionally, the companies have established agreements for virtual fixed-line and internet services, which will enable Vodafone Egypt to expand its integrated telecom services in the Egyptian market, supported by innovative and competitive business models.
The Minister of Communication emphasised the significant efforts made to improve mobile network infrastructure in Egypt over recent years. This includes the awarding of 5G licenses to mobile operators in 2024, an investment of USD 675 million, and the doubling of mobile towers over the past five years to more than 36,000 towers across the country.
Additionally, over 8.8 billion Egyptian pounds have been invested in the past two years to expand mobile tower coverage in rural areas under the Decent Life (Hayah Kareema) initiative, with full coverage expected by the end of the first quarter of 2025.
