Indonesia's imports experienced a monthly decline of 8.91 per cent in September 2024 compared but a significant increase of 8.55 per cent compared to September 2023, according to data released by BPS Statistics agency on Tuesday. Imports of oil and gas fell by 4.53 per cent compared to $2.53 billion in September 2024 compared to August 2024 and also dropped by 24.04 per cent year-on-year compared to September 2023. Non-oil and gas imports also sank by 9.55 per cent to $16.30 billion, compared to the previous month. However, they grew by 16.29 per cent compared to September 2023. China remained the top trading partner for Indonesia's non-oil and gas imports, accounting for $51.38 billion during January to September 2024. Japan and Australia followed with imports worth $10.53 billion and $7.32 billion, respectively. Indonesia's balance of trade in September 2024 recorded a surplus of $3.26 billion, primarily driven by a surplus of $4.62 billion in non-oil and gas trade.
