The Zohr natural gas field in the East Mediterranean off Egyptian Northern coast is set to undergo new drilling operations by the Italian company Eni in the coming months, according to Karim Badawy, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources on Monday. This initiative aims to enhance gas reserves and boost production rates from the field. During a general assembly at the Petroleum Authority's headquarters, the minister emphasised the importance of collaboration and integration of new technologies into the operations. Francesco Gaspari, Eni's Director in Egypt, confirmed that preparations are underway for drilling new wells utilising modern technology in the deep waters of the Zohr concession area. Moreover, Khaled Mowafi, Chairman of Petroshorouk, reported that operations in the FY23/24 maintained an average production of approximately 2 billion cubic feet of gas per day, with investments in the field exceeding $677 million. Plans are also in place to drill two new wells in the first quarter of 2025. The minister commended the significant safety and environmental achievements made in the Zohr field's operations, highlighting measures taken to reduce flaring gases and promote sustainable practices.
