Cambodia's imports of diesel fuel and petroleum oils have seen a significant increase of 18 per cent in the first eight months of 2024, according to the General Department of Customs and Excise. The value of diesel fuel and petroleum oil imports during the January-August period reached $1.663 billion, up from $1.414 billion in the same period last year. Specifically, Cambodia spent $1.006 billion on diesel fuel and $657 million on petroleum oils, representing increases of 16 per cent and 21 percent respectively compared to the previous year. Currently, the Southeast Asian nation is entirely reliant on imports for its diesel fuel and petroleum oil needs as its seabed's oil reserves remain untapped. The Ministry of Mines and Energy forecasts that the demand for oil products in Cambodia will continue to rise, reaching 4.8 million tons by 2030, up from 2.8 million tons in 2020.
