The Egyptian government has finalised its national low-carbon hydrogen strategy, said Randa Al-Minshawi a senior aide of Prime Minister, on Monday. The move marks a significant step towards establishing the country as a global leader in green energy production. The announcement was made while Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly led a meeting in New Alamein City to review the progress made on green hydrogen projects and discuss the implementation of the new strategy. Key government officials, including the ministers of electricity, investment, and petroleum, as well as representatives from the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority and the National Council for Green Hydrogen, attended the meeting. The strategy outlines a comprehensive framework for developing the green hydrogen industry in Egypt, including financial incentives, tax exemptions, and streamlined approval processes for related projects. The National Council for Green Hydrogen, established last year as per a Cabinet decree no. 3445/2023, will oversee the implementation of the strategy. Leveraging Egypt's vast renewable energy potential, the government has identified numerous suitable locations for green hydrogen projects across the country, including the Gulf of Suez, Gebel El Zeit, Benban, Kom Ombo, and Zaafarana. To date, 23 green hydrogen projects are underway, with partnerships formed with global energy developers.
