In a recent statement released on Monday, the U.S. Ambassador to Egypt, Anne W. Patterson, and the entire staff of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo have conveyed their deepest condolences to the friends and families of the Egyptians – both Christian and Muslim – who were killed or injured in the recent violence in Al Khosous and Abassiyya. The U.S. embassy in Cairo condemns the violence, and welcomes Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi's promise to conduct a full and transparent investigation. It is the responsibility of the state to protect all of its citizens.
