Egypt joins Austrian, Czech firms for Sodium Cyanide Plant

Egypt plans to establish a sodium cyanide production facility in collaboration with Petrochemical Holding Gmbh and Czech company Draslovka with an initial investment of $160 million, the Egyptian Cabinet announced on Wednesday.
The project aims to satisfy local market demands and export 80 per cent of its production to countries around the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and Africa.
Ahmed Samir, Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry, emphasised the importance of Egypt's new chemical plant for key industries and its role in attracting investment, leveraging raw materials, skilled labour, and trade agreements for duty-free global market access.
The project aims to bring European chemical industry technology to Egypt and boost exports, especially to Africa, under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), marking a major stride in Egypt's economic and trade development.
