Egypt food exports soars by 235,000 tonnes in a week

Egypt's food exports have witnessed a significant activity during the period from March 16 until March 22, the Egyptian Cabinet stated on Sunday, citing the National Food Safety Authority's (NFSA) 12th weekly report of 2024.
According to the report, a total of 4,680 food consignments, weighing approximately 235,000 tonnes, were exported by 1,700 companies. These consignments included a variety of 550 types of fresh fruits and vegetables and various food products.
Potatoes topped the list of exported vegetables last week with 45,000 tonnes, followed by various frozen vegetables of 15,000 tonnes and beans of 5,000 tonnes. In total, 66 types of vegetables were exported, amounting to approximately 72,000 tonnes.
Citrus fruits led the list of exported fruits last week with a total of 70,000 tonnes, followed by strawberries of 11,000 tonnes, and various other fruits of 4,000 tonnes. In total, 37 types of fruits were exported, amounting to approximately 85,000 tonnes.
Saudi Arabia, Netherlands, Spain, and Italy were the largest recipients of Egyptian exports last week, among a total of 155 importing countries.
The report also noted that 1,765 food consignments weighing approximately 511,000 tons were imported by 690 companies.
These consignments included 145 types of wheat, soybeans, and various oils from 85 countries. Russia was the largest exporter to Egypt, followed by Ukraine, the United States, Indonesia, and Australia.
