Bank Sohar , under the auspices of Munira bint Abdulnabi Macki, DGM (Human Resource & Corporate Support), has introduced a state-of-the-art banknote processing system from Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) at its MBD branch to further enhance customer service levels in the bank.
"At Bank Sohar , we strive to be the best at everything that we do. The acquisition of this machine will greatly facilitate the speedy counting of vast sums of money," said Dr Mohamed Abdulaziz Kalmoor, chief executive of Bank Sohar . "Its high processing power and its ability to detect counterfeit currencies will enhance currency security and turnaround time," he added.
25 branches
The new machine from G&D is capable of counting cash in different denomination at the rate of 1,000 notes per minute. It is also capable of separating the different note categories as well as coins. Other than the Central Bank of Oman, Bank Sohar is the first and only bank to introduce this heavy duty machine.
In the six years since its inception, Bank Sohar has been one of the fastest growing commercial banks in Oman in terms of both, technology and size. Bank Sohar has a network of 25 branches and 44 ATM machines across the Sultanate. Additionally, Bank Sohar customers continue to enjoy the privilege of free-of-charge access to over 650 ATMs under the 'Oman-Net' platform.
Founded in 1852, G&D is a global market leader in banknote production and processing. It supplies commercial banks, business enterprises, network operators, and public transportation companies with innovative hardware, comprehensive software and services, and end-to-end solutions for mobile security applications. As such they are a perfect fit for the bank's long-team objectives," added Dr Mohamed Abdulaziz Kalmoor.
