BMW launches experimental fleet of hydrogen cars

BMW launched on Monday an experimental fleet of hydrogen vehicles, the missing piece in the emission free transportation jigsaw, according to the company's CEO.
The BMW iX5 Hydrogen car is assembled in Munich, it uses fuel cells from Toyota Motors and can reach a speed of 18 km per hour.
The vehicle stores hydrogen in two containers and can be filled in three or four minutes, to allow it to move for 500 km per time, according to CNBC.
The car is expected to hit the markets in 2023, despite the experimental vehicles small quantity of around 100 vehicles to be used globally for showcase and for trial.
Hydrogen is an energy source that can be used for various services and it plays important role in transportation and thus for the protection of the planet, said BMW's chairman, Oliver Zipse.
Zipse also described the hydrogen as the most efficient way for the storage and transportation of the renewable energy.
BMW is considered one of the many motor companies that is continuously researching hydrogen. Other companies include Toyota and Hyundai, while other small companies like Riversimple are all working on manufacturing hydrogen cars.
