The International Maritime Organisation's (IMO) Secretary General, Kitack Lim has revealed on Thursday the establishment of a regional office in Egypt to cooperate with the Middle East region. During a joint press conference with Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Lim praised that this step reflected its strong support for the green transformation in response to the challenges posed by climate change. Lim further commended SCA's efforts to decarbonise and transform a green canal, as he was pleased with its steps and how it had not only changed ship fuels but also conducted business as a whole to reach a sustainable future. IMO was developing legally compelled policies to incentivise ships to switch from fossil fuels to green fuels and clean energy such as ammonia and hydrogen, according to Lim. Noteworthy that the traffic control stations were converted to operate with green energy instead of fuel in addition to converting about 150 vehicles of guides to operate with green energy, Rabie said.
