Egypt launched on Sunday the activities of the fifth edition of Cairo Water Week (CWW) under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi entitled "Water at the Heart of Climate Action."
This year's event will discuss climate challenges and their impact on the water sector as a preparatory event for water events before less than a month of the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27).
The four-day event that will last until 19 October is organised by the European Union Delegation to Egypt in collaboration with Egypt's Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.
CWW aims to integrate water issues into climate action, promote innovations to confront urgent water challenges in unconventional ways using modern technology.
The event will support the implementation of integrated water management policies and reach the sustainable resource management solutions.
Moreover, it is scheduled to hold three plenary sessions to present the latest water techniques by few ministers of water and international scientists, professors of prestigious universities and representatives of international organisations.
The event also includes competitions for the best graduation project for university graduates 2021-2022, the three-minute thesis competition for master's students and the STEM young water inventors' competition for high school students. The winners of the three competitions will be recognised at CWW's awards ceremony on Wednesday.
The event will bring together representatives of 70 states, including 16 ministerial delegations, 54 official delegations and 66 international organsations with a total of more than 1,000 participants.
