Fiber-Optic Infrastructure Awaits Permission
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 12 - 03 - 2012

Mobile companies are waiting for acquiring the armed forces and security entities permission of starting the establishment of fiber-optic networks' infrastructure amid the 2nd quarter on the current year.
Informed sources inside the mobile companies said that the companies are ready to launch execution of their fiber networks during this year, as they already got the project required licenses from the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), and they added that the companies will not conduct any bids or negotiations with infrastructure companies until they get the remaining required licenses.
Mobile companies bet on the fiber-optic networks regarding improving the value added services especially in the internet sector because of receiving the expected pressure on the network beside the desire of seizing the expected short term investment opportunities, besides putting on consideration the increasing demand on smart phones, data, and broadband services, as well as the saturation status witnessed in the voice services sector.
Engineer Mohamed Abd El reheem – Egypt Telecom former CEO- said that the expenses proportion paid by mobile companies for renting Egypt Telecom's infrastructure is hardly reaching 3% of the company's total revenues, and he clarified that mobile companies' desire to enter the fiber-optic networks market is a pointless matter, as investing in fiber market will not be useful for them in the meantime.
Abd El reheem confirmed that Egypt Telecom intends to cooperate with all of mobile companies in case of their desire to establish a fiber infrastructure, as he mentioned that Telecom will not only cooperate with “Vodafone" but it also intends to cooperate with “Mobinil"
