Egypt has been selected to host the COP27 United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2022, the country's environment ministry announced on Thursday.
The North African country is set to hold the conference in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh, the ministry statement added.
The upcoming conference, Egypt aims to reach with world countries fair and balanced outcomes to face the impact of climate change and help developing and African countries to adapt and response, said Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad.
The decision was taken on the sidelines of this year's conference, COP26, which is hosted by the United Kingdom in Glasgow.
In September, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi expressed his country's interest in hosting the COP27 on behalf of the African continent.
Egypt would do its best to make the conference "a radical turning point in international climate efforts in coordination with all parties, for the benefit of Africa and the entire world," the president said at the time.
The UAE was selected also last Thursday to host the COP28 international climate conference in 2023.
Last month, Egypt hosted the 2nd Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Ministerial Conference on Environment and Climate Action. The conference was attended by the UfM member countries. It was chaired by the European Commission, and Jordan's Ministry of Environment, in the presence of the UfM Secretary General Nasser Kamel.
