The number of people with HIV in Egypt does not exceed 0.02 percent of the population, Health Minister Hala Zayed said on Tuesday.
She was speaking at the 20th International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa (ICASA 2019) in Kigali, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Zayed also said health is the major locomotive for economic growth and sustainable development, according to a statement by the health ministry reported by MENA.
She shed light on the new comprehensive health insurance system that Egypt has launched, in addition to the many initiatives in this field, citing the 100 Million Healthy Lives campaign.
Zayed also asserted the keenness of Egypt's political leadership to offer health services to foreigners living in Egypt for free, citing the initiative launched in this regard.
She also highlighted the presidential campaigns around women's and children's health, underscoring that a new presidential initiative on early detection of kidney diseases will be launched soon.
