How to fight suicidal thoughts after Egyptian student takes his own life?
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 02 - 12 - 2019

Suicidal thoughts can be very difficult to deal with or understand. Sometimes they can be fleeting, but other times they can be stronger urges or fantasies that promise relief from seemingly unbearable pain.
On Saturday, Egypt witnessed a tragic and horrific incident, where a 20-year-old Egyptian student committed suicide by jumping off Cairo Tower, the tallest building in North Africa.

Initial investigations showed that the young man was studying at Faculty of Engineering, Helwan University. People claimed that he suffered from psychiatric conditions.
The victim, who was named Nader, jumped from the top of the 187-meter Cairo Tower and fell on its entrance building.

In 2012, the World Health Organization (WHO) listed Egypt as among the countries with the lowest suicide rate, at less than five suicides per 100,000 people.
Some tips to overcome thoughts about ending your life
There are ways to overcome suicidal thoughts that can move you away from hurting yourself and towards recovery. Some suicides are impulsive acts due to stress, such as from financial difficulties, relationship problems such as breakups, or bullying.
1. Remove yourself from danger or (if safe) stay where you are.
2. Slow your breathing.
3. Remind yourself of recovery.
Some of the thoughts that may accompany suicidal thoughts include:
* I want to escape my suffering.
* I have no other options.
* I am a horrible person and do not deserve to live.
* I have betrayed my loved ones.
* My loved ones would be better off without me.
* I want my loved ones to know how bad I am feeling.
* I want my loved ones to know how bad they have made me feel.
