Real estate tax offices extend working hours

The Ministry of Finance has decided to extend working hours until 7 PM at real estate tax offices in order to facilitate the submission of property tax forms. Open hours on Friday and Saturday remain unchanged.
During his meeting on Thursday with the heads of real estate tax offices in the governorates, Minister of Finance Boutros Ghali said the Tax Authority had allocated additional resources to receive and process the real estate tax declarations before the official deadline of 31 December, 2009.
Citizens are only required to submit the tax declaration, said Ghali, adding that other documents such as ownership contracts, electricity bills and photocopies of identification cards are not required. In addition, the Ministry of Finance clarified that submitting the proper form does not necessarily mean an individual is required to pay a tax on the property.
