Egypt's navy conducted the biggest live ammunition war games in its history Sunday off the coast of Alexandria. The event, dubbed "Sea Victory," was attended by the head of Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, his deputy Sami Anan, interim Prime Minister Essam Sharaf, and a number of governors and senior military leaders. Thirteen military exercises were held using marine personnel, 47 watercrafts of various models, and F-16, Hull and SH2G warplanes. War games are used to emulate missions of securing marine transport and commercial vehicles both at sea and on shore, in addition to deterring potential attacks with surface-to-air and surface-to-surface rockets fired from submarines and motorboats. The exercises also witnessed the use of new speedboats named after martyrs from the armed forces, as well as tests for the new Egyptian-manufactured marine traffic large motorboat, the Navy 1. On 20 October Egypt's naval commander Mohab Mamish said his forces will help secure polling stations for the upcoming parliamentary elections, scheduled to begin on 28 November.
