A group of engineers from the Air Navigation Services Company at Cairo International Airport have gone on strike, demanding better financial management, the removal of corrupt management figures, and an overhaul of administrative operations. The striking workers marched from the airport to the Civil Aviation Ministry on Sunday, where they announced an open-ended sit-in until their demands have been met. Striking engineers on Sunday told Al-Masry Al-Youm that they are seeking to improve the air traffic control sector by purging it of corrupt management. They submitted a memorandum to Major General Lotfy Mostafa Kamal, the civil aviation minister, demanding that Captain Mohie Ragheb, acting president of the Air Navigation Services Company and head of air traffic control, be removed from his post. They also suggested in the memorandum the employment of international experts to restructure the air navigation sector and guarantee its integrity. In addition, they condemned the allocation of company resources to air traffic control without considering the company's other sectors. They also complained in the memorandum of having been attacked by thugs as they announced their intention of holding an ongoing sit-in. Several of the striking engineers met with Ragheb on Sunday, but said that the meeting yielded no positive results. The engineers's sit-in comes on the heels of a four-day strike by air traffic controllers, also from the Air Navigation Services Company, who had made similar demands.
