Court postpones lawsuit demanding dismissal of attorney general

The State Council Administrative Court postponed the review of a lawsuit to dismiss Attorney General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud until 25 October, judicial sources said Wednesday.
Mohamed Fath al-Bab, north Zagazig prosecutor, filed the lawsuit in July against the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi.
Fath al-Bab said the SCAFis the authority with the power to dismiss the attorney general and dissolve the general prosecution.
The lawsuit, according to the sources, was postponed to give the SCAF time to respond to the lawsuit.
Judicial sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that Fath al-Bab said Wednesday that Mahmoud's position atop Egypt's prosecution "indicates we're going in the wrong direction.”
The lawsuit described the attorney general and the prosecution as "political extensions for the former regime," alleging they don't represent the people.
Revolution activists have also called for Mahmoud's dismissal, saying he is reluctant to protect people's rights or interrogate those who killed protesters during the revolution.
