Syrians protest in Cairo to demand Assad''s execution
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 06 - 09 - 2011

Dozens of Syrians living in Cairo, including a number of opposition figures, protested on Tuesday outside Syria's Embassy in Egypt to denounce the crimes of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against civilians demanding the fall of his regime.
The protesters called on the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to expel Syrian Ambassador Yusuf Ahmed from Cairo and not to recognize him as a representative of the Syrian people.
The protesters chanted, “The people want the execution of Assad” and “Oh, heroes and the free souls of Syria, one more step and you will topple Bashar.”
Prior to the beginning of the protest, military police were heavily deployed outside the embassy to prevent the protesters from reaching the street on which the embassy is located. This prompted the protesters to demonstrate near the neighboring Wafd Party headquarters while waving both the Egyptian and Syrian flags.
A number of Syrian protesters told Al-Masry Al-Youm that they would continue to protest in Egypt and abroad until the ousting of Assad and his whole regime. They also condemned the silence and lack of intervention of Arab leaders towards the killing of innocent civilians.
Mamoun al-Homsi, a political refugee in Canada currenlty visiting Cairo said, "Assad is using all his weapons and tanks to kill the Syrians and demolish mosques, and it is sad to see Arabs and Muslims remain silent on the genocide taking place in Syria."
The protesters marched to the Russian Embassy to declare their anger at Moscow's continued export of arms to Assad's regime.
After the protesters gathered, the Russian Embassy's First Secretary Vladimir Nasekedan came out to talk with them, saying that he would relay their demands to the Russian government. He also promised them a meeting with the Russian ambassador on Monday to listen to their demands in detail.
Following the meeting, the protesters marched to the Arab League in Tahrir Square.
