The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) called on Thursday for a law that prohibiting the former leaders of the dissolved National Democratic Party (NDP) from exercising any political activity for a certain period of time. "This is the best way to start practicing politics on a sound basis after the revolution,” said Mohammed Badie, the MB's Supreme Guide, in a message on the group's website. Badie called on the government of Prime Minister Essam Sharaf to review the performance of police in a more serious way. He said that the failure to investigate and prosecute police officers suspected of wrongdoing, especially those who worked in the dissolved State Security Investigations Service, would result in the continuation of hostility between the people and the police. "Issuing a law that deprives the leaders of the dissolved NDP from exercising political activity is not a Brotherhood demand only; it is the demand of all revolutionaries and political forces,” Mohsen Rady, a prominent leader in the group, told Al-Masry Al-Youm. He pointed out that the demand is justified because it is illogical that a person involved in corruption should continue working in politics, since they will have a detrimental effect on the reform process.
