Egyptian reform movement the National Association for Change expressed its rejection of Egypt's Arab League chief nominee, Mostafa al-Fiqqi, saying it would soon announce a list of alternatives. Ahmad Darrag, general coordinator for the National Association for Change (NAC), described al-Fiqqi as "a corrupt symbol for the former regime." "Egypt has so many efficient people. it's unacceptable that al-Fiqqi is the only applicable one for the post," Darrag said in an interview with Al-Masry Al-Youm. Egypt has nominated al-Fiqqi, a former diplomat, to succeed Secretary General Amr Moussa in May. Egyptians have held the post since the league's creation, though its charter does not stipulate that an Egyptian must hold the position. Darrag said possible alternatives include Foreign Minister Nabil al-Arabi or Cairo University political science professor Ahmed Youssef Ahmed, who has good relationships with Arab countries. A week ago, a delegation that included representatives from the NAC, the Muslim Brotherhood and others met with Prime Minister Essam Sharaf to express their disapproval of al-Fiqqi's nomination.
