Egypt sends 39 planes to Tunisia, 24 to Libya to evacuate Egyptians

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry today said it has sent 39 airplanes to Djerba airport in Tunisia to evacuate Egyptians stuck at the Libyan-Tunisian borders, and 24 airplanes to Libya for the same reason. Of these, 17 headed to Tripoli, two to Sert, and five to Sabha, Assistant Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdel Hakam told state television.
He also said that the Egyptian army sent a ship to Tunisia today, which is currently carrying 1200 Egyptians to Alexandria.
According to news reports, around 20,000 Egyptians in Libya have moved to the Tunisian border since the breakout of violence in Libya on 17 February.
Egypt has the biggest foreign community in Libya, with around 1.5 million people working in the country.
According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, six Egyptians have been killed in Libya since the protests calling for the ouster of Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi began.
