On Sunday evening state security prosecution began investigating former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly on charges of killing demonstrators and creating lawlessness during the 25 January revolution. Judicial sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that al-Adly--currently imprisoned pending the outcome of a money laundering case--underwent questioning by state security prosecution Sunday night at the behest of Attorney General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud. The sources said al-Adly faces charges of murdering demonstrators, inciting against them and causing general lawlessness. Al-Masry Al-Youm learned that the state security prosecutor is expected to summon three former ministers for questioning regarding the alleged attacks on demonstrators. Al-Adly is scheduled to appear before Cairo Criminal Court for the first time on 5 March. He is charged with "money laundering and [illegally] profiting from a public office." During earlier military prosecution investigations, al-Adly said that he was not responsible for the decision to kill protesters. He is accused of ordering live ammunition to be used on protesters on 28 January, then ordering police to withdraw from the streets and allowing prisoners to escape in order to intimidate ordinary citizens. Over 350 protesters were killed and another 5000 injured during the nation-wide pro-democracy protests which led to the ouster of former president Hosni Mubarak on 11 February.
