Wafd, Brotherhood to pursue legal action against parliament
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 18 - 12 - 2010

The Wafd Party announced that it is organizing a forum for legal experts to discuss ways to annul the recent parliamentary elections which brought a sweeping victory to the ruling National Democratic Party. The Muslim Brotherhood, meanwhile, urged its members to express their rejection of the new parliament and stressed the need to use all peaceful and legal means, and the media, to prove the parliament void.
Ali al-Salmi, a leading member of the Wafd Party, said the forum will be held on 20 December at the party's headquarters and will be headed by Yehia al-Gamal, Atef al-Banna and Ibrahim Darwish, all of whom are legal experts.
Several of those Wafd members who ran in the election and “failed due to rigging” will also participate in the forum, including Alaa Abdel Monem, Mostafa al-Gendi, Munir Fakhri Abdel Nour, Mohamed al-Omda, Mohamed Mostafa Shordi and Fouad Badrawi, added al-Salmi.
Yassin Tag al-Din, head of the party's legal committee, will gather all the documents which prove that the election was rigged, he added. A working group will then be formed to implement the recommendations produced by the forum.
The Brotherhood, meanwhile, urged its members and all Egyptians to put into action the opposition's seven demands for reform, saying that talk of the futility of the signature campaign supporting the reforms is intended to destroy any hope for change.
The group further criticized what it described as the regime's insistence on proceeding with the new parliamentary session despite court rulings declaring the parliament void and objections by various political groups.
