The UN-sponsored Luxor International Forum on Sunday concluded two days of events in the Upper Egypt city by unveiling a plan to combat human trafficking. The forum was chaired and attended by Egypt's first lady, Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, whose organization, tje Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement, is a co-organizer of the event. Mrs. Mubarak said the plan, dubbed “The Luxor Protocol,” represents “a work plan and a road map for any institution eager to combat human trafficking with the help of the world business sector.” The first lady added that 25 major institutions have signed the protocol, and encouraged more supporters to endorse it in an effort to “combat the international phenomenon whose victims are currently estimated by 27 million, representing a modern kind of slavery.” Participants invited private philanthropists to support the victims of human trafficking through the United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons.
