Weekend events: Christmas approaches!
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 09 - 12 - 2010

If you haven't picked up a Christmas tree yet or do not plan to this year, don't fret! You can light a tree somewhere else--or have your children light a tree for you! There are a number of Christmassy events this weekend with tree lightings and shopping and children activities.
Tree Lighting at the Fairmont Nile City
The Fairmont Nile City will hold it's tree lighting ceremony this Saturday, 11 December with Christmas carols and a visit from Santa for your children. The event will take place from 5PM-7PM and will serve Christmas spirited drinks and snacks. Pack up the family for an evening of fun and delight and still get them home in time for bed!
Soft Opening of Leila Abou Ragab's Handmade Jewelry
On a more grown-up note, spend your Christmas money at City Stars--if you haven't already--for Leila Abou Ragab's gorgeous first collection. At the booth you can order custom made pieces and snack a little on some Christmas themed treats. Her booth will be set up from Friday, 10 December at 11AM onwards on the 4th floor in the extension across from Adidas and Timberland.
Sahar Zaghloul Furniture event
For 6 October residents, pass by the October Hills' club house for a furniture event featuring a number of different brands, designers and discounts! The event will begin Friday, 10 December at 11AM and continue through the weekend till the following Sunday.
Scoutival 2010
This Friday, 10 December, the Basilique Notre Dame in Heliopolis will hold its annual bazaar from 11AM-8PM at Le Patronage (8 Mahalla St, from Beirut Street, Heliopolis). Pass by to shop, explore, and participate in the activities or sign up for the raffle, which includes dinners, a Luxor cruise to Hurghada and a double room there, among other things. Entrance to the fair is LE20.
Designopolis Ebony & Ivory collection and Zimmer Christmas brunch
For particularly adventurous types, head over to Designopolis at 38km on the Cairo Desert Road for the opening of a new collection by Egyptian designers Hadia al-Sallab, Cherif Morsi and Ganzeer. The furniture installation will be on display from 2PM till 10PM with a small cocktail reception from 7PM-9PM. The collection is dubbed “Alphabet”--for more information, contact Ebony & Ivory at 0227530320. From 1PM to 6PM, take a walk to Zimmer by the Terrace Cafe for a Christmas brunch and a look at their winter collection.
Lebanese Night at Buddha Bar
Sofitel's Buddha Bar is getting into the fashion scene with its Lebanese themed night this Friday, 10 December. The event will not only feature food from the country but also a fashion show by Lebanese designer Merelle Dagher. Dine on Lebanese food or just chill with a drink in the lounge. Call 0100026346 or 0100026344 for reservations.
Rottweiler Breed Show in Sakkara
This Saturday, 11 December, the Sakkara Country Club will host Egypt's first Rottweiler Breed Show from 10AM until 1PM. The show will include K9 security demonstrations, a bouncy castle, and an activity schedule for small children. The club's pool and restaurants will be open as well. Baby Academy Christmas event at City Stars
Saturday, 11 December also marks the day of the children's Christmas event at their City Stars branch, Indimaj. Pass by with the kids for a day of shows, Santa, bouncy castle, and arts and crafts. Although you will definitely get bombarded by a hoard of small children, the little smiles on their faces are sure to get you through your Saturday! Happy Christmas spirit for everyone!
Cairo Jazz Club
This weekend's lineup includes DJ Ouzo on Friday, 10 December and Tony Kaldas live on Saturday, 11 December. Party Christmas style with the festive cocktails and jovial spirit. Reserve on the Cairo Jazz Club's Reservation Genie: http://www.cairojazzclub.com/reservation.php
