In an election day rife with NDP triumphs, all cabinet ministers nominated by the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) were successfully elected to People's Assembly in Sunday's poll, according to preliminary election results. The NDP's business tycoons also prevailed. Minister of Local Development Mohamed Abdel Salam Mahgoub won the professional seat in Raml district in Alexandria and Minister of Military Production Sayyed Mashaal won the professional seat in Helwan, overcoming his independent rival Mostafa Bakri. Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmi seized the worker seat in Nasr City, Cairo and Minister of Finance Youssef Boutros-Ghali secured the professional seat in the Mahad al-Fanni, Shubra district. Minister of Water Resources Mohamed Nasreddin Allam won the professional seat in the Juhaina, Suhag district and Minister of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Mufeed Shehab won the professional seat in Muharram Beik, Alexandria. Minister of Agriculture Amin Abaza won the professional seat in the Tallein, Sharqia district and Zakaria Azmi, the chief of presidential staff, secured the professional seat in Cairo's Zaitoun voting district. The Muslim Brotherhood, thus far, has won only one seat. Manal Ismail, the group's candidate for the women's quota seat in Beheira, emerged victorious in her race. Several other prominent NDP members seized seats in their competitions. Parliamentary Speaker Ahmed Fathi Sorour and Secretary for Organization at the NDP, Ahmed Ezz, who is also Egypt's main producer of steel, were among the winners. Mohamed Abul Enein, the owner of one of the biggest ceramic companies in Egypt, won the professional seat in the Giza district. In Alexandria, Tareq Mostafa, the chairperson of Talaat Moustafa Group won in Sidi Gaber. Mahmoud Khamees, a partner in Oriental Weavers, won the professional seat in the Belbeis, Sharqiya district. Mahmoud Othamn, the chairperson of the Arab Contractors Company, won his race in Ismailia. In Deyarb Negm, Sharqia, owner of Sewedy Cables, Talaat al-Sewedy, and Mostafa al-Saeed, a former minister, are set to face off in the run-off vote for the district's professional seat.
