The Muslim Brotherhood in a press statement issued late Sunday night accused the National Democratic Party (NDP) of rigging Sunday's parliamentary election, saying state security paved the way for widespread fraud. Sunday's election hosted isolated clashes that claimed at least three lives. According to early indicators of election results, the Brotherhood won around six seats this year, down from 88 seats in 2005. In a statement issued at the end of the election day, the Brotherhood launched an attack on the regime, accusing it of widespread fraud aimed at securing a comfortable parliamentary majority for the NDP. The statement said that violence led to the injury of Brotherhood candidate in Alexandria Sobhi Saleh, along with a number of his supporters, and the attempted assassination of Abdel Latif Qutb, the Brotherhood candidate in the Beba district, Beni Suef, after he revealed large-scale rigging in the Saft Rasheen village. The Brotherhood said the ruling NDP employed thugs to drive away voters in order to manipulate the ballots. The statement also said state resources were clearly used to serve the candidates of the ruling party, as was the case in Nasr City where voters were bused in to vote for Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmy.
