Sources at the Tourism Ministry said that tourist development plans for Egypt's North Coast would not include the Dabaa area, the proposed site for Egypt's first nuclear reactor. The state-run Nuclear Safety Authority reportedly asked the ministry to exclude the site from a list of areas set aside for development projects, which will be presented to potential investors next October. The site was included in the ministry's initial development plan--which has already been completed--but will be ruled out in subsequent phases aimed at determining locations for tourist development activities. The sources went on to explain that investors would be offered a number of North Coast development projects, from Sidi Abdel Rahman to Marsa Matrouh--20km from Dabaa--and from Ras el-Hekma to Alam el-Roum.
