Ramallah, West Bank--Six Palestinian family members were killed in a car collision with an Israeli military vehicle in the occupied West Bank Friday, Palestinian police and the Israeli army said. The circumstances of the accident were unclear but regardless of the findings of an investigation which the Israeli army said was being held in cooperation with the Israeli police, the incident is expected to cause anger among Palestinians. The funerals of the victims, including parents and three of their children, are expected Saturday and will be held during a period of increased tension between Israelis and Palestinians. Earlier Friday, dozens of people were injured in clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces in Jerusalem and the West Bank, as tension over land and holy sites mounted ahead of a relaunch of U.S.-mediated peace negotiations. Another Palestinian in the car was seriously injured and four Israeli soldiers in their military vehicle were slightly hurt. The soldiers and the Palestinian were being treated at an Israeli hospital, the Israeli army said. The accident took place on a main road north of Ramallah near the religious Israeli settlement of Ofra on a road that is used by both Israelis and Palestinians.
