An Egyptian official told Israeli Maariv newspaper that Cairo would not allow Avigdor Lieberman, President of Yesrael Beiteinu Party, to enter Egyptian territory in case he became foreign minister unless he formally apologies for his remarks against President Mubarak and his threats to bomb the high dam. On the international concern about the increasing opportunities for Lieberman to become foreign minister, the Israeli newspaper said Lieberman is a persona non grata for Egypt, and the United States fears his extremism, while Europe believes he may withdraw the citizenship from the Israeli Arabs. The paper explored the views of high-level sources all over the world about Lieberman approaching the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, saying he has become the enemy of the Egyptian people due to his famous threats to destroy the high dam if Egypt decided to send armed forces to the Sinai, and his personal attack on President Mubarak in the Knesset when he said: “If he wants to talk to us, let him come here, and if he doesn't, let him go to hell.”
The Egyptian official told Maariv that Lieberman is the only Israeli official since the signing of the peace treaty that threatened Egypt so bluntly. He added that Lieberman is not the real problem between Egypt and Israel, as he is but crazy. The real problem he said is Yuval Steinitz from the Likud, who believes Egypt is a threat to Israeli security.
The newspapers report that was entitled ‘the whole world rejects the appointment of Lieberman as foreign minister' did not have a single American or European that sympathized with Lieberman. Even Jewish sources in Europe said his appointment would raise hostility to Israel in the white continent. While the White House refused to comment on Lieberman's appointment before the Israeli government is officially formed, Jewish sources close to the decision-making circles in Washington said the U.S. would turn its back to Lieberman if he took that office.
