In a gesture of Arab reconciliation, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Saud Al-Faisal and Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Muallem met yesterday for the first time since the relations between Riyadh and Cairo, on the one hand, and Damascus, on the other, deteriorated in light of the Israeli aggression on Gaza. In the same context, the Arab League anticipated reconciliation before the coming Arab summit in Doha later this month. Faisal called for a joint Arab vision that deals with the Iranian challenge. Syrian ambassador in Cairo Youssef Al-Ahmed told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the trilateral meeting addressed a number of Arab challenges in a sign of improvement in Arab relations. He added that Syria is proposing an Arab summit of the three countries with Qatar to find solutions in this regard. Also all speakers in the opening session of the 131st meeting of foreign ministers in the Arab League called for achieving Arab reconciliation before the Doha summit on March 30. Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa said: “I am pleased to relay to you optimistic expectations for the restoration of the Arab situation before the summit.” The League also discussed activating the Arab Peace and Security Council to meet the challenges that threaten Arab national security.
