The lawyers that are staging a sit-in at the Bar Association have yesterday caught the attention of passers-by in Ramses Street when they set up symbolic gallows with their robes and wrote on it: Law Increasing Legal Fees. They then began to hang themselves one after the other in an expression that the new law will affect their livelihoods. They will meet today with MPs to discuss the negative aspects of the law. On Tuesday, they will march to PA holding dummies of PA Speaker Dr. Fathi Sorour, Plan and Budget Committee Chairman Ahmed Ezz and Minister of Justice Mamdouh to burn them there. Hamdi Khalifa, head of the Lawyers Syndicate in Giza, and Mohamed Ali Suleiman, head of the Lawyers Syndicate in Alexandria, called for referring the bill to the Supreme Constitutional Court prior to its issuance so as to resolve the controversy over its constitutionality. Lawyers in the province of Dessouk refused to pay the mentioned fees, with 500 of them staging a sit-in in protest against what they called an ‘illegitimate' regime.
