Engineering Consultant Mamdouh Hamza has attributed the continued landslides of Mokattam to the government's negligence in handling the disaster and dealing with it incorrectly. In exclusives to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Hamza said" "We have talked about the Dewiqa catastrophe and warned the officials against new landslides at any moment. We have provided the scientific solutions, but no one paid attention."
"After the disaster, I publicly said that the region is sedimentary rocks that could be fragmentized once water touched them. Therefore, there should be barrier to prevent drainage water from reaching these sedimentary rocks. However, the officials ignored such advices." "What could we expect from a committee whose chairman is a "professor of concrete", Hamza wondered in reference to the committee that dealt with the Dewiqa disaster. "There will be new rockslides in Mokattam due to carelessness in dealing with the situation. I also expect new rockslides in Ain Sukhna, especially in the higher edges because they are composed of sedimentary rocks and water reach them a continuously, thus fragmentizing them. And days will prove that," Hamza added. He stressed the importance of developing sensitive instrument in areas that have sedimentary rocks so that water would not reach the rocks.
Ain Sukhna is a tourist area so that it should receive much attention from the State otherwise it would face a disaster at any time, Hamza said.
