The workers of Werash Kom Abu Radhi, Beni Suef governorate, went on strike for the second day in a row. They increased their demands from two to seven. The workers started their strike yesterday at 9 a.m in Al-Wasta railway station. The demonstrators, 1600 in number, stood on the rails and prevented trains traveling to the Lower Egypt from movement for two hours. More than 300 soldiers surrounded the railway station, imposed a security cordon around the demonstrators and used cudgels to disperse them. The demonstrators threw stones at the security forces, which detained three of them. For his part, Head of the General Union of Railway Workers Ramadan al-Gindi has accused some elements belonging to the Islamic trends, in reference to the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) Group, of inciting the workers for special purposes.
Speaking to Al-Masry Al-Youm, al-Gindi said the Islamic trends incited the workers to call for allowances, dealing the intermediate qualifications holders on an equal footing with the high graduates, justice in the distribution of incentives, getting leaves from the company rather than the Railway Authority and contracting with new hospitals for treatment.
