The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) group said the security forces have arrested about 860 of its members and leaders in the two weeks of the aggression on Gaza and put them in five prisons, in addition to dozens others held at the State Security headquarters in the provinces. But a ministry official told Al-Masry Al-Youm they were arrested for inciting riots. Abdel Moneim Abdel Maqsoud, the lawyer of the group, said that more than 160 MB leaders and members were arrested on charges of belonging to a banned group and of organizing demonstrations in public squares and mosques against the Israeli massacre in Gaza. He said the Interior Ministry issued arrest warrants for 390 MB members, while the rest were arrested without warrant or charge. The group last week submitted a communiqué to the Attorney-General against the Interior Ministry and demanded the release of 300 of its members, which the Interior Ministry declined to comment on.
